Y2K and Marc Jacobs

Subcultural and time-specific clothing can be an easy way of self-expression and establishing your identity to others.

In 2019 the luxury designer Marc Jacobs--also known for some cultural appropriation blunders, such as his white models wearing dreadlocks--announced his S/S line "Heaven". Based on the feeling and aesthetic of 90's nostalgia, the line was described in the introductory Instagram page as polysexual and intended to re-contextualize subcultures in the modern day.

The clothing is also more affordable and accessible than Marc Jacobs usually goes for, with some items as low as $35, in line with this reach towards a younger audience.
